Step Up for Scholars 2022: Chrissy McKinnon

Welcome to Step Up for Scholars, the second event in the 2022 Pat’s Run Challenge Series! We’re celebrating all 14 classes of Tillman Scholars over the next 14 days. Each day, we’ll share a story from one of our scholars to inspire you to push a little harder tomorrow in your step challenge. Today, we’re kicking off with Chrissy McKinnon, a 2019 scholar and military spouse. Here’s Chrissy:

Hi, my name is Chrissy. I’m a 2019 Tillman Scholar and thank you so much for participating in this challenge.  I am here to share a story with you that may help you step up from yesterday. 

During my grad school experience, I never expected to get COVID right at the beginning. And after that, I had long COVID that caused me to be pretty sick for quite a while.  What I did to get through that was just show up every day and just do the work so I didn’t plan for tomorrow. I didn’t plan for the day after that. I just showed up. 

So today just show up, do what you can — and that’s enough.
