Rich was enlisted in the US Marines from 1999-2003 where he served as an infantryman and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant following a deployment to Iraq during the initial invasion in 2003. He pursued his undergraduate degree at Florida Atlantic University while working for the Transportation Security Administration. 

While attending a doctoral program in clinical psychology at Loyola University Maryland as a Tillman Military Scholar, Rich co-founded The 6th Branch and Veteran Artist Program in Baltimore. He served as The 6th Branch’s executive director from inception until 2012 when he decided to return to active duty as an Army Officer. Following a deployment to Afghanistan, Rich was stationed in Germany where he is currently a behavioral health clinic chief. 

Rich plans to continue to serve in the Army while maintaining his connections to The 6th Branch and greater philanthropic community in Baltimore.
