2013 Tillman Scholar
Like so many others in his generation, Anthony was first inspired to serve his country in the fall of 2001, following the September 11th attacks.
A college student at the time, he completed his degree at Florida State University and commissioned into the United States Marine Corps, where he was designated an infantry officer and served as a member of 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment. While deployed to Fallujah, Iraq in the fall of 2007 he first became inspired to pursue a career in medicine, after seeing the impact his corpsmen were able to have on the local population of the city.
After completing his military service, Anthony returned to the classroom and went on receive his MD from the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. Electing to remain at USF for his post-graduate training, he is currently a resident physician in general surgery, and also pursuing an additional two years of dedicated surgical research in addition to his clinical training. As a physician, Anthony hopes to use the lessons he learned as a Marine to continue to serve others and provide care to those in harm’s way.
