Brett SanPietro

Director of Programs

Brett joined the Pat Tillman Foundation in 2022 to lead its programming efforts in building, serving, and uniting a community of leaders committed to service beyond self. With over 15 years of leadership experience across military, government, and private sector positions, Brett thrives on listening to diverse and divergent voices and synthesizing them into innovative solutions.

Brett began his military service as an enlisted infantryman in 2000, assigned to The Old Guard in Washington, DC, during which time he was both a first responder at the Pentagon on September 11 and deployed to the Horn of Africa region. Following active duty he received his BA in political science from the University of Illinois at Chicago and was commissioned into the Illinois National Guard as a Human Intelligence Officer. He has since transitioned out of the Army, received an MBA from George Washington University, and holds the rank of Lieutenant as an Intelligence Officer in the Navy Reserves.

Brett is a former career diplomat with overseas postings in both East Africa and Pakistan as well as domestic assignments within the intelligence community. He has advised the VP of International Relations at Medtronic, Inc. and served as VP of Operations for a leading public opinion research firm out of Cambridge, MA. Brett most recently completed three years as the Director of Operations for Team Red, White & Blue, where his team supported a community of over 1,000 volunteers in building a health and wellness community for veterans.

Originally from the Detroit area, Brett and his wife Lara now reside in Chicago with their four dogs and cats. Outside the office, Brett enjoys endurance bike racing, running, happy hours, and is always up to host friends for board games.
