2013 Tillman Scholar

Christopher Stanfield

Army
Eastern Kentucky University
B.A., Political Science

Chris was fundamentally changed by the events of 9/11. After graduation, he joined the United States Army and served in the Infantry, deploying twice to Iraq.

Chris was accepted to Eastern Kentucky University shortly after discharging from the military. He excelled academically but privately struggled during his academic career with undiagnosed PTSD. After personally lacking support and the tools to re-enter society as a civilian, Chris became determined to help his fellow veterans.

In 2013, he graduated with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Veteran Studies. Since graduating he has assisted thousands of his fellow veterans with securing housing, employment, and the veteran benefits they earned. Currently he works as a Military Services Coordinator with the Department of Veteran Affairs, assisting servicemembers prior to separation by obtaining their benefits before they discharge.
