The Halli Lannan Memorial Scholarship for Racine Unified School District

In December 2020, Tillman Scholar and advocate Halli Lannan passed away after a five-year battle with metastatic breast cancer. In memory of Halli’s legacy, her family has started the Halli Lannan Memorial Scholarship for students in the Racine Unified School District including alternative education programs.

The scholarship celebrates the work and passion for education and advocacy that Halli pursued until her death: “As a person, she promoted excellence and continually fought for justice. Additionally, Halli was an advocate, who passionately fought for equity and access. Halli believed in using her voice to advocate for those who she identified as ‘the most delicate and marginalized, students for whom improving public education is paramount.'”

As a 2015 Tillman Scholar, Halli made an impact on her colleagues within the PTF community. During her Make Your Mark talk at the Pat Tillman Leadership Summit in 2017, Halli described the adversity she faced as a disabled veteran, sexual assault survivor, cancer survivor and member of the LGBTQ community—and how living her truth and being her authentic self helped her overcome it.
