Medical Director
Amy Jo Overlin, MD is a non-operative sports medicine physician through Banner University in Phoenix, Arizona. Over the last two decades she has cared for athletes from all levels of participation from recreational, to club, college and professional. Currently she serves as the Head Team Physician for the Phoenix Mercury, and the Tempe Unified School District. She also serves as an Assistant Team Physician for the Phoenix Suns. As a former collegiate level gymnast, Dr. Overlin also enjoys working with many of the local gymnastics clubs throughout the greater Phoenix area.
In addition to seeing patients at Banner University Sports Medicine, Dr. Overlin is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix. She can be found teaching medical practitioners and the general public alike on a variety of sports medicine topics. Dr. Overlin is extremely passionate about the mission of The Pat Tillman Foundation and the tradition of the Pat Tillman run. She began working as a member of the race day medical staff while serving as a Team Physician at Arizona State University in 2006.
In 2013 she took over as the Medical Director for the race. While working at ASU she had the opportunity to learn all about Pat Tillman’s legacy and why the Pat Tillman Foundation was created. The core mission of the race and the foundation has always resonated with Dr. Overlin’s personal core values. Per Dr. Overlin’s own words, “The race itself is not the average running race because it’s purpose serves the greater good. It embodies the American values of hard work, honor, community investment and hope. It’s an event that unites so many people from different walks of life all toward a common goal. To be a part of and experience an event like the Pat Tillman Run is an incredibly powerful, uplifting experience. This is why year after year I choose to serve as the medical director.”
