Blog, Step Up for Scholars | 08/09/2022

Welcome to Step Up for Scholars, the second event in the 2022 Pat’s Run Challenge Series! We’re celebrating all 14 classes of Tillman Scholars over the next 14 days. Each day, we’ll share a story from one of our scholars to inspire you to push a little harder tomorrow in your step challenge. Today, we bring you 201 Tillman Scholar LaChiana Hamilton sharing her story of overcoming an injury that limited her ability to run, discovering an alternative form of exercise. Check out LaChiana here:

Hello this is LaChiana Hamilton, Tillman class of 2014. I am sending my video in for Step Up for Scholars, first off congratulations for stepping it up and preparing yourself for your next event of running.

While I am no runner, a couple years ago I realized I had developed a condition in my knee that required me to kind of take it easy. But i wanted to get back into biking which isn’t running, but it’s something that I can do with these bad knees. I started off with just two or three miles a day until i was able to do 17 miles a day. I initially I biked for 15 minutes and now I can bike for over 60 minutes. So be encouraged on your challenge, I hope you have a great time stepping it up!

Want to join the challenge? It’s not too late! Register by Aug. 14 at StepUpforScholars.org and you’ll get a commemorative t-shirt and hat.
