Pat Tillman Foundation can’t fulfill its mission to empower military veterans and their spouses without the generosity of our supporters across the country. Nationwide, over 520 Tillman Scholars are striving to impact our country and communities through their studies in the fields of medicine, law, business, policy, technology, education and the arts.
We recently had the honor of interviewing Tillman Scholar Jonny Kim who was selected to the 2017 class of NASA Astronaut Candidates. A Navy SEAL medic, Jonny graduated from Harvard Medical School in 2016 and was currently at the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
During the 2016-2017 application cycle, NASA received a record-breaking number of applications to join the future of space exploration with 18,300 submissions. Jonny was one of 12 applicants selected to begin two years of training in August at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. Jonny could be assigned to a variety of missions, including: research on the International Space Station, launching on spacecraft built by commercial companies, and deep space missions on NASA’s new Orion spacecraft and Space Launch System rocket.
