Letter from the CEO: Your Gift Makes a Big Impact

Blog | 12/08/2020

This has been a year like no other.

And just as they did in their service, our Tillman Scholars have stepped up through the many crises we’ve seen in 2020, leading through action as they guide their communities through service beyond self. Here are just a few examples:

  • Tillman Scholar Safi Rauf volunteered to support efforts in New York at the height of its COVID crisis, taking care of ICU patients at the field hospital at the Javits Center, before coming home to the D.C. area, where he is working on his B.S. at Georgetown, to assist in training healthcare workers on PPE use and contact tracing
  • Tillman Scholar LaChiana Hamilton, a nurse practitioner at a clinic for socioeconomically disadvantaged families in South Carolina, made thousands of masks, donating several to marginalized families and frontline healthcare workers
  • Tillman Scholar Melissa McCullough developed a system to test for COVID using wastewater to produce rapid, accurate results, an award-winning initiative recognized by the Booz Hamilton Foundation Innovation Fund

Your gift supports our mission to unite and empower a diverse community of remarkable veterans and military spouses. In supporting Tillman Scholars, you make sure that they can come home and begin their next chapter, embracing humble leadership and serving after service.

As a Tillman Scholar myself, I can’t overstate how life-changing this program can be. Nor can I overstate my gratitude to you for ensuring that we continue to impact lives—not just those of the Tillman Scholars, but the communities across the globe who benefit from their values and leadership.

Even a small donation makes a big impact. In honor of my fellow Tillman Scholars, I ask you to make a gift today.

Sincerely,

Dan Futrell, CEO of the Pat Tillman Foundation and 2011 Tillman Scholar
