Brent Bubany is trading in his Green Beret for medical scrubs.
After an extensive career as a Special Forces operator and leader, Brent made the bold decision to pursue a new path in medicine. The career change was inspired by the hands-on medical experience he gained during deployments and a strong desire to make an impact in the lives of others. With support from the Pat Tillman Foundation, he left active duty to pursue his medical degree at the Uniformed Services University.
This past May, Brent earned his M.D. and officially stepped into his next chapter as an emergency medicine resident at Madigan Army Medical Center. Reflecting on the role the Foundation has played in his journey to becoming a doctor, Brent shared: “PTF provided me with a sense of belonging outside of my military community and outside of my medical cohort.”
“The best manifestation of this was when I was working at Baltimore Shock Trauma as a medical student and my attending was 2013 Tillman Scholar Anthony DeSantis,” he recalled. “It was like knowing the secret handshake and instantly being accepted on this team of very high-performing surgeons and critical care health professionals.”
Brent’s story is a powerful reminder that service can take many different forms, and the Foundation is proud to support him.
