“We don’t always choose what happens to us. We do get to choose how we respond. As a chaplain, I help people make meaning of difficult life experiences.”

Timothy Usset is an ACPE certified educator, ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, and licensed marriage and family therapist in Minnesota. He has worked with moral injury, spiritual distress, and post-traumatic stress disorder on research projects and clinical areas within the Veterans Health Administration, Department of Defense, Air Force Research Laboratory, and private health systems. He has 17 years of military service beginning in the Minnesota Army National Guard in 2006 and transfered to the Army Reserve in 2011. As a chaplain, he has served psychological operations, civil affairs, medical, and legal units.

In 2021, Timothy deployed in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center as the senior chaplain clinician for the Deployed Warrior Medical Management Center. He currently serves as the command chaplain for the U.S. Army Reserve Legal Command. Outside of the Army, Timothy is a research health scientist at the VA Maine Health Care System and a researcher at the Minnesota Evidence-Based Practice Center. Through earning his Ph.D., Timothy plans to become a leading researcher in the care and prevention of moral injury in service members, veterans, and healthcare workers.
