“In an era where meaningful conversations across different perspectives have become increasingly rare, PTF has provided an invaluable space where Scholars from diverse backgrounds can engage in society’s most challenging conversations, fostering the kind of authentic collaboration and understanding that transforms how we approach complex problems and drive meaningful change.“
For Matt, the Army has provided the opportunity to care for service members, while becoming a leader in health care. He began his career at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, often receiving patients within five days of their initial injuries, most from Afghanistan, and witnessed up close the tragedy of war. Of the five quadruple amputee patients injured during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, three have been his patients. As debilitating as the physical injuries were, Matt learned it was the invisible injuries that were often most overlooked and particularly challenging for those in his care. This culminated in leading the inpatient behavioral health unit at Fort Hood, which shaped his vision for transforming mental healthcare delivery.
Today, Matt is recognized as one of the leading experts in digital mental health, particularly in integrated care and suicide prevention. As Vice President of Innovation at NeuroFlow he has pioneered breakthrough approaches that impact major health systems, payers, and the federal government. His work was validated by his role as NeuroFlow’s lead author on the winning proposal for Mission Daybreak-a VA suicide prevention innovation prize. Matt is frequently invited to present his insights on healthcare innovation at national conferences and forums.
Matt is additionally the co-Founder and Executive Director of Action Tank, a Veteran nonprofit organization. He previously conducted policy research at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics and served on the Philadelphia Mayor’s Opioid Task Force. His contributions have earned him notable recognition, including selection as a 2022 George W. Bush Institute Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program Scholar and induction into the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy & Practice Hall of Fame in 2024. Matt holds a BSN from the University of Vermont and dual MPH and MS in Social Policy degrees from the University of Pennsylvania.
