“Volunteering at Walter Reed Hospital, I found my first true passion in life.”

Laura Butler was only a freshman in college when she started volunteering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. During her visits, she met Captain Ferris Wade Butler-who was undergoing the limb salvage process on both of his feet after an explosion in Iraq. Over time, their friendship blossomed into marriage, and Laura has been a devoted military spouse and caregiver for the last several years.

Laura’s work with Homes for Our Troops and her personal experience building a handicap-accessible home for her husband sparked a passion for interior design and architecture. She envisions opening her own interior design business to support injured and disabled Americans. With her firsthand knowledge of accessible design, she wants to make interior spaces both beautiful and accessible to all. Help support scholars like Laura.
