2024 Tillman Scholar
Josh entered the United States Air Force with a high school education and a desire to further his education after serving across the United States and overseas in a civilian humanitarian aid capacity. While fulfilling his military obligation, he achieved his associate’s degree through the Community College of the Air Force and his bachelor’s degree through American Military University by completing classes at night outside of his duty schedule.
His passion for serving led him to pursue two national licensures in respiratory care, attend the Critical Care Air Transport validation courses, and publish a paper documenting military healthcare lessons converted to civilian application. His deployments thereafter continued to emphasize his desire to pursue medicine and evolved into his application to the Air Force Special Operations Surgical Team.
After completing a total of four deployments, Josh applied and was accepted to the Enlisted to Medical Degree Preparatory Program, where he pursued a master’s degree in biology. He gained acceptance into Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2024 and applied for the HPSP program with the goal of becoming an Anesthesiologist and Critical Care provider.
Adding his further education to his background in battlefield medicine, Josh desires to continue to serve the Air Force and his fellow service members at home and abroad. Alongside these goals, he is supported by his dedicated wife of 13 years and his two daughters. Together, Josh and his wife want to provide their daughters a future of hope and an example of fulfilling their passion.
