2024 Tillman Scholar
Jacqueline is currently in her 3rd year of PhD in Special Education study at the University of California, Berkeley and San Francisco State University. She studies effective practices for the social and academic inclusion of students with disabilities. She also works to develop embodied mathematics interventions specifically designed for neurodiverse learners. She is also interested in inclusive mathematics pedagogy and teacher education. Her work is inspired by her previous experience as both a general and special education Math teacher, where she saw students with disabilities routinely excluded from academic and social settings.
By pursuing this degree, Jacqueline hopes to (a) better understand the cognitive and social struggles of students with extensive support needs in inclusive classrooms; (b) develop effective teaching tools and practices to promote inclusive academic and social-emotional learning; (c) support teacher development programs by sharing ground-breaking research and best practices; and (d) advocate for the rights and strengths of children with disabilities.
