2019 Tillman Scholar
With a desire to be part of something truly greater than himself, Edward enlisted in the Navy to become a Navy SEAL. For the better part of 21 years, Edward conducted 12 overseas deployments with 9 combat tours within Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen and Somalia. During his tenure, he has learned that being a credible teammate and leader requires selfless devotion to duty and others, being impeccable with your word, and being fearless in the face of adversity.
Edward has always reflected on those that have helped him achieve his success and is constantly thinking of ways to help out those around him. On Feb 29, 2016, The President of the United States awarded Edward with the Medal of Honor for his actions in rescuing an American doctor, Dr. Dilip Joseph, with his fellow SEAL Team in eastern Afghanistan on Dec 8, 2012. For Edward, this recognition has become a platform to honor those who remain in the shadows and to the hero and Navy SEAL, Chief Petty Officer Nic Checque, who gave his life that evening to save a fellow American.
Never one to rest on his laurels, Edward decided to follow the path of several of his teammates and attend business school at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He hopes to impact the world by creating a business that will hire veterans and reward them for their sacrifice to this nation.
