My interest to practice emergency medicine was nebulous as a first-generation African American who was instructed to be the first medical doctor in our family’s history. My resolve grew stronger after serving two year-long tours in Iraq as a combat medic. And after six years in Oregon, I now know how I would like to train and practice. Specifically, my goal is to train at an emergency medicine residency program serving a diverse socioeconomic population with strong wilderness medicine and pediatrics presence.
