2010 Tillman Scholar

Aaron Dunn

Army
Charleston School of Law
J.D.

The generous financial support from the Pat Tillman Foundation was integral toward the completion of my J.D. and led to my joining the FBI where I have positively impacted the communities where I have worked; removing violent offenders from the streets and preventing the use of hazardous devices in those communities.

Two weeks after September 11th, Aaron enlisted in the U.S. Army, motivated by a sense of duty and family tradition, as two of his brothers were already serving. He spent his active duty at Fort Bragg, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division and the 20th Engineer Brigade, with deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

In 2008, he transitioned to the Army National Guard and enrolled at Charleston School of Law, initially intending to become a Judge Advocate General. However, after attending an FBI recruitment presentation, he pivoted to a career with the FBI. After earning his Juris Doctor, Aaron joined the FBI Academy and was first assigned to the Cleveland Field Office to investigate counter-terrorism.

He later helped establish a new FBI Resident Agency in Williston, North Dakota, focusing on gang violence, narcotics, and human trafficking. As a certified Special Agent Bomb Technician, he took on various criminal and national security investigations in the Fargo RA. Aaron rose to Supervisory Special Agent in the Counter-IED Unit, leading teams and participating in national efforts against explosive threats. He currently supervises new agents at the FBI Academy, teaching leadership and ethics.

Aaron now resides in Northern Virginia with his wife and two children. He enjoys attending their extracurricular activities, traveling, coaching youth wrestling, and has volunteered as a Tillman Military Scholar application reviewer for the Pat Tillman Foundation for the past two years.
