Tillman Military Scholars Program

Founded in 2008, the Tillman Military Scholars program supports our nation’s active-duty service members, veterans and military spouses by investing in their higher education. As a supplement to the Post-9/11 GI Bill and in recognition of rising college tuition costs, the Tillman Military Scholarship covers direct study-related expenses, including tuition and fees, books and living stipend, for scholars who are pursuing undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate degrees as a full-time student at a public or private, U.S.-based accredited institution.

Since its inception, the Tillman Military Scholars program has grown in both scope and impact investing over $4.6 million in scholarships for 290 Tillman Military Scholars at 85 academic institutions nationwide. Scholars demonstrate extraordinary academic and leadership potential as well as a deep desire to impact change for our country and communities through their studies in medicine, law, business, government, education and the arts.

2014-2015 University Partners

The Pat Tillman Foundation recognizes that veterans and military spouses face numerous challenges during the transition from military to civilian life and have unique needs that often prevent successfully completing a degree. Since 2008, the foundation has joined with University Partners who offer innovative, veteran-specific services and a proven culture of support for student veterans and military spouses. Throughout the academic year, University Partners help identify and select qualified candidates on their campus for the Tillman Military Scholar screening process.

For the 2014-2015 academic year, the Pat Tillman Foundation welcomes the addition of four new University Partners in support of the Tillman Military Scholars program. Georgetown University, Indiana University, The Ohio State University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee were selected as Tillman Military Scholar University Partners, bringing the total to 15 partner institutions nationwide. The four universities join Arizona State University, Columbia University, The George Washington University, Texas A&M University, University of Alabama, University of Arizona, University of Maryland, University of Minnesota, University of Oregon, University of South Florida and University of Washington as University Partners.

“By partnering with the Pat Tillman Foundation, Georgetown deepens our commitment to ensuring that our student veterans are supported as they transition to civilian life and the classroom. It’s a great privilege to join with an organization that reflects our community’s values through its emphasis on the importance of both character and service,” said John J. DeGioia, President of Georgetown University.

“The Tillman Military Scholars program will provide financial support to outstanding military and veteran students at our university,” said Ohio State interim President Joseph Alutto. “It is a distinct honor to receive national recognition for our efforts to create a supportive culture for our veteran and current military students. We are grateful to the Pat Tillman Foundation for its generosity, leadership and support of this vital student population.”

“Partnering with the Pat Tillman Foundation in support of the Tillman Military Scholars program is indicative of Indiana University’s continued strong support of its active-duty students, veterans and military spouses, and is an honor we’re pleased to accept,” Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie said. “This program will greatly assist those students and their spouses who have dedicated themselves to serving our nation, enable their successful transition from military to civilian life and help move them closer to earning their college degrees.”

“The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee firmly believes in strength through partnerships,” said University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Chancellor Michael R. Lovell. “As a Pat Tillman Foundation University Partner institution, UWM will be able to serve even better the state’s largest concentration of military personnel, veterans and dependents as they pursue their educational goals.”
